Dropping the Bomb on Hiroshima - 1332 Words

August 6, 1945 was a day that would forever change the lives of the Japanese living in Hiroshima. On this day, President Truman gave the order to drop the first atomic bomb known as â€Å"Little Boy† onto the city. This city was strategically chosen due to its size, the low amount of damage it had from the war, and the high concentration of soldiers stationed there. The bomb instantly vaporized 80,000 people, and radiation sickness and burns killed another 100,000 in the years that followed. Three days later, a bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, where 80,000 Japanese perished (www.ushistory.org). Even though WWII finally came to a halt, the devastation for the people of Japan was only just beginning. The decision to use the atomic bomb was not an easy one to make, and there is still debate about it even today. On August 6 1945, President Harry Truman gave a Press Release informing the nation that an atomic weapon had been detonated in Japan. In this speech he stated the bomb had mo re power than 20,000 tons of TNT and due to how powerful and deadly it was, the scientific knowledge of the bomb would not be made public until further examination. Truman stated if the Japanese did not accept Americas terms and surrender, more destruction would come there way. Truman was prepared to destroy their docks, factories and communications in order to obliterate Japans power to make war. I have had only one positive experience in teams; it was in my middle school math project where we were put into groups of 5. We could fully depend on each other. Sound Design The sound not only help move the story and convey the emotion everyone is looking for, but also to help give that Tim Burton feel. I feel like he wants his films to fit within the overall context of pop culture and film in general. The 3D enhances the swooping landscape shots and is for the atmospheric effect. It pulls the audience more into the world and the film is better for it. Camera movement The camera movement in this movie combines a little bit of everything. But mostly the space between the two cameras that represent the human eyes and create the illusion of depth is a main factor taken into place during this movie The Story The Plot Alice is and unconfident and confused 19 year old girl who is being forced into marriage with an English man. At her engagement party she escapes the crowd to consider whether to go through with the marriage or not. She then sees a strange rabbit and falls into a rabbit hole. Arriving in a strange and surreal place called wonderland she find herself in a world that resembles a dream she had as a little girl. It was filled with talking plants, animals, an evil queen, knights and a ferocious beats. Alice realizes that she is there for a reason and that reason is to conquer the horrific Jabberwocky and restore the White Queens place on the throne But, at the same time she is there to find herself and become the woman she is meant to be. Initial situation Alice has been mourning the loss of her father. She is troubled by unremembered memories of the past in her dreams. Alice all of 19 attends a garden party where she is surprised by an unwanted marriage proposal and the expectations that society beholds upon her. Running off distraught and confused she chases after a white rabbit. Inciting moment this whirlwind of fascinating adventure. Alice is placed in a room with a door too small for her to fit through. She is told to indulge the drink to shrink and eat the bread to grow. She goes through the door and then her adventure really begins. Complication Alice encounters complications with every new character she interacts with. Alice herself is a big complication through the movie she has to try and understand the mysteries of wonderland. She must also undergo changes from a shy innocent girl to a warrior who can slay the red queens evil beast. Climax and resolution The red queen is throwing a trial that Alice must attend. The queen is accusing frog of eating all of her tarts. There is a great deal of evidence giving again the frog. The frog is sentenced to be beheaded and Alice stand up for the frog and said to be executed by the queen. She fghts off the queens guards and escapes. She then leads an army against to queen and her evil beast. She faces the beast in an extraordinary battle when she be heads the beast and the while queens restored to power in Wonderland. Denouement After Alice came back from Wonderland she returned as a new woman. As she urned down the wedding proposal and worked for a man opening trade up in China. She went to China at the end and sees the butterfly from wonderland. Alice never promised to come back to wonderland only to never forget. The Characters Major Characters Alice She is destined to slay the red queens killer beast. Alices experience in Wonderland is about reconnecting with herself and finding out that she has the strength to be more confident in figuring out what she wants. The Mad Hatter- He has been awaiting Alices arrival back to wonderland. Mad Hatter is Alices protector he would go to and length to help or protect her. He is her on true friend and believed in her even when no one else does. The Red Queen- She rules with and anger like no other always wanting to behead people at the slightest thing. She stole the crown and the throne from her sister the white queen. The Red Queen is also meant to stop the prophecy from becoming true and to stop Alice from defeating the her killer beast. The beast that gives her the rule over Wonderland. Minor Characters Absolem- He is the character in wonderland that people go to for answers. He is the keeper of the scroll and knows all of Wonderlands history. The White Rabbit- His Job as to make sure Alice made it to Wonderland and to keep her on her path through the movie. The foundation for leadership is the understanding of business practices (professional leadership) develop the foundations of personal leadership around it.Becoming a successful leader calls for a more developed and in depth practice in personal leadership. George et al, calls for the use of personal narrative to enrich the values and become a mo re authentic leader, authentic in a sense that the leader believes in what he/she is doing. Authenticity relies on the leader being passionate about what they do and in e? ect caring about it. Go? ee et al. & Owens et al argue that the admission of faults and limitations in ability when selectively done will bene? t a leader in that becoming more genuine.A leader who is able to admit faults shows that they are able to be empathetic and fosters a sharing informative environment. These ideas are all matched in our model by Mastrangelo et al. though three theorems: 1. Professional Leadership (providing direction, process and co-ordination will be positively related to willing cooperation 2. Personal leadership (ie. demonstrating expertise, trust, caring, sharing and morals) will be positively related to willing cooperation. 3. Personal Leadership will mediate the relationship between professional leadership and willing cooperation.Mastrangelo et al. expresses that these three concepts lead towards willing cooperation and are explored in depth when you layer the other 5 articles. Firstly as outlined, the professional leadership provides the direction, process and coordination, the basis of business practice, which is echoed by Drucker in ‘The Theory of Business’ and by Ofek & Wathieu in ‘Trends that could shake up your Business’. These articles concentrated on the professional leadership skills of being able to provide direction for the organisation, but also outline the importance that each individual understands as well.The articles give detail on how leaders must be able to make others understand and also be able to think outside the box, to have a way of forward thinking. Secondly, Personal leadership requires the demonstration values of the person. The foundation of professional practice where the expertise is expressed if followed by the understanding and comprehension of the follower, and their acceptance and trust leader’s expertise. The development of further values goes on to build this trust. As George et al. , Go? ee et al. and Owens et al. examines, the development in the character, the authenticity of a leader is the expression of their personal values and to show that they are also human. The idea to let go of the heroic leader perspective and adopt a more humble approach, to allow your followers to connect on an interpersonal level. The development of a fostering relationship that allows though the understanding of individuals, to care for each other to understand that each person has their own faults and short comings, developing a larger and more complex investment in their leader.Thirdly, the quality of the personal leadership will mediate the e? ectiveness of the professional. As individuals develop a more complete and authentic perspective of a leader the e? ectiveness of professional leadership will progress. As leaders become more aware of both their own and followers strengths and weak nesses their development into becoming a more e? ective continues to grow. When they reinvest what their followers have invested in them, they start to empower others to lead.They not only inspire those around them , they empower those individuals to step up and lead. – (George, B. Sims, P. McLean, A. and Mayer, D. 2007). The degree in which e? ectiveness is measured is by the depth and willingness of others to help and follow a leader, based on their personal leadership. These articles give a detailed view of the model, as its expresses both real world and theoretical concepts that both elaborate and embellish Mastrangelo et al. focus on the importance of personal and professional leadership.
